The true story of Tushar—a young man with low vision, big dreams, and the heart to rise above it all.

Tushar, 22, lived in  Shivaji Ward in Bhandara, Maharashtra. His home was small, but his dreams were not. His father worked as a construction laborer, carrying heavy bricks under the scorching sun. His mother worked as a maid, cleaning other people’s homes to keep food on the table. Life wasn’t easy, but the family held each other together with love.

Tushar was born with 66% low vision, a recognized disability under India’s Persons with Disabilities Act. He didn’t talk about it much. He simply saw the world differently—had to squint a little harder. But what hurt more than his blurry vision were the reactions of people around him. The way children teased him at school. The stares. The whispers. “How will you ever do anything?” they would say. Tushar never replied. He just looked down, stayed quiet, and moved forward.

Some nights, he cried alone. But he never gave up. He focused on education—his first step toward independence. He earned a diploma in Mechanical Engineering, followed by a post-diploma in Tool Design. Even then, he wasn’t done. He began pursuing his B-Tech degree—not for praise, but because he dreamed of giving his parents a better life. He wanted to become the reason they didn’t have to struggle anymore.

But for many youth with disabilities in India, even the best qualifications aren’t enough. Tushar faced rejection after rejection. Every job interview ended the same way—with a polite smile and a quiet, “We’re sorry, we don’t have a position for someone like you.” These were not just rejections of a résumé—they were rejections of his ability. They saw his disability. Not his determination.

Tushar began to question himself. But then, something shifted. He came across Youth4Jobs, a leading organization working for livelihoods of persons with disabilities, through a community partner called Divyang Mitra. It didn’t seem like a big opportunity at first—just training. But he decided to give it a chance. He enrolled in Batch 23.

That classroom became a turning point. For the first time, Tushar wasn’t seen as someone who needed help—he was seen as someone with potential. He was trained in communication, digital literacy, workplace etiquette, and interview skills. Most importantly, he was reminded of his self-worth and capability.

Then came the life-changing moment: he got his first job.

Tushar was hired as a UV Machine Operator at SPC Scan Graphics, earning ₹13,000 per month. It was more than a paycheck—it was validation. The first thing he did with his salary? He went home and placed it in his mother’s hands. Her eyes filled with tears. In that moment, Tushar felt what every person with a disability deserves to feel—pride, dignity, and inclusion.

But Tushar’s story didn’t stop there. With his confidence restored, he returned to the same community that once doubted him. Not with anger—but with a desire to lift others. Today, those who once mocked him now come to him for guidance. And he helps them.

Tushar now actively supports other persons with disabilities by introducing them to the SwarajAbility Livelihood PortalIndia’s first accessible job portal for persons with disabilities. He assists them with job applications, interview preparation, and helps them apply for government schemes for the disabled. He’s become a bridge between opportunity and those who are often left behind.

Today, Tushar is not just a job holder—he’s a mentor, a community champion, and a quiet advocate for disability inclusion in India’s workforce. He continues to study, to grow, and to dream even bigger. He wants to earn more, help more, and bring light to those still living in the shadows of doubt.

Because if life taught him anything, it’s this:
struggles may be temporary, but courage—courage creates chang
