Focus. Determination. Identity.
The Story behind the Shot:
Ian Treherne, a photographer from Southend-on-Sea, Essex (UK), was born with Usher Syndrome Type 2 (RP), a condition causing deaf-blindness. His disability, he says, has “naturally cropped the world,” giving him a unique visual perspective and sensitivity to detail. The featured portrait of Fikayo, a Zebedee talent model, is part of a conceptual series exploring barriers, challenges, and stereotypes in the commercial and media world. Captured using a Canon 5D SR with studio lighting, the image reflects Lan Lan’s lifelong creativity — shaped by early isolation due to deafness and nurtured through drawing, painting, and ultimately photography — his way of transforming perception into art.
