Summary “I wanted to protect my child—and myself. That gave me the courage,” says Preeti Mendhe. Preeti, from a small village in Maharashtra, lives with a 44% locomotor disability. Trapped in an abusive marriage, she returned home pregnant and penniless—but determined to build a dignified life. With support from Youth4Jobs Foundation, she received training, her disability certificate, and a small loan to grow her mobile shop business. Her income tripled. She is now an independent mother, a proud entrepreneur, and a role model for other women with disabilities. “I didn’t just start a business—I found my voice,” she says. ‘From Rock Bottom to Role Model: How Preeti Mendhe Reclaimed Her Life with Dignity’ In Khatiya village, nestled in Maharashtra’s Gondia district, 29-year-old Preeti Mendhe’s journey is one of silent battles and bold choices. Born with a 44% locomotor disability, Preeti learned early how to navigate a world that wasn’t built for her. But it was after marriage that the real storm began. Her husband, an alcoholic, subjected her to three months of relentless physical and mental abuse. When Preeti found out she was pregnant, she made a brave, life-changing decision—she walked away. Leaving behind the violence, she returned to her parents’ home, determined to give her child a better life. “I had nothing but ₹8,000 and a dream to stand on my own,” she says. With that small amount, she began a modest mobile shop, selling beauty accessories in her village. The start was slow. Earnings were meagre. But Preeti refused to give up. A new chapter begins Everything changed when Youth4Jobs Foundation came to her village. Their team, recognizing Preeti’s grit, enrolled her in their Grassroot Academy Micro Enterprise Training program. Through this, she received business skills training, assistance in getting her disability certificate, and a ₹20,000 loan to scale her shop. More importantly, she found mentorship and belief. With renewed confidence, Preeti expanded her offerings—adding steel items and increasing her stock. Her shop, once small and quiet, grew into a thriving business known across 10 to 15 villages. Independence, one sale at a time Her monthly income tripled, from ₹3,000 to nearly ₹10,000. She began setting up stalls at large local fairs, connecting with hundreds of customers. Today, Preeti is not just an entrepreneur. She is a mother raising her child with care, dignity, and the promise of a better tomorrow. Her journey has inspired other women—especially those with disabilities—to dream beyond survival. “I didn’t just start a business—I found my voice,” she says with quiet pride. More than a livelihood—a legacy Preeti’s story is proof that when determination meets the right support, transformation is possible. From being silenced in a violent marriage to being celebrated as a successful businesswoman, she has rewritten her future. “I want my child to grow up seeing strength, not struggle. That’s why I chose to fight.” From a tiny shop to becoming a respected figure in her community, Preeti Mendhe stands tall—an example of what resilience, empowerment, and opportunity can do. She once needed someone to believe in her. Today, she’s that someone for others. Paralyzed in an Accident, 30-Year-Old Rebuilds Life with Grocery Shop & Social Media in Rural Maharashtra
Summary “In good times, everyone stays with us, but in bad times, the one who supports us is no less than God,” says Ramchandra Wagmode. From a young age, Ramchandra supported his family through poverty, the loss of both parents, and eventually, a life-altering accident that left him paralyzed. Despite unimaginable setbacks, he chose life over despair. With support from Youth4Jobs and Rangde, he rebuilt his confidence and restarted his business. Today, Ramchandra is independent, runs a grocery shop, and uses social media to inspire others like him. “I didn’t just learn to walk with a wheelchair—I learned to stand tall in life,” he says. ‘From Rock Bottom to Rising Again: Ramchandra Wagmode’s Journey of Grit and Grace’ Born in Renapur, a small village in Maharashtra’s Latur district, Ramchandra Wagmode was no stranger to hardship. At just 11, he began working in the local market to support his family while continuing his studies. He later completed his B.Com Part 2 and an ITI course—pushing through poverty with silent resilience. His parents worked as daily wage laborers. They had little income, but a lot of hope. Grief and responsibilities beyond his years In 2014, life took a cruel turn when Ramchandra’s father, burdened by debt, died by suicide. As the only son, he suddenly found himself responsible for his two sisters. He arranged his elder sister’s marriage and supported his younger sister’s education—even when the family had barely enough to survive. Then came another heartbreak. After his father’s death, his mother fell severely ill. Due to a lack of money, Ramchandra couldn’t afford her treatment. In 2017, she passed away. “My world fell apart, but I had to stay strong—for my sister.” The accident that changed everything By 2019, things began looking up. Ramchandra had a job at Khadi Kendra and was proudly funding his younger sister’s police training. But on December 25 that year, a tragic car accident left him with a spinal injury that paralyzed both legs. Doctors at Sahyadri Hospital fought to save him. He had deep wounds on his knees, back, and hip. Recovery was uncertain. For months, he was bedridden, unable to care for himself. His younger sister helped him with everything. The guilt and helplessness pushed him to the edge. “I wanted to give up. But I couldn’t leave my sister alone in this world.” Love, support, and a promise to rise When his sister began receiving marriage proposals, many rejected the idea of taking in a disabled brother. It was then that she met a compassionate computer operator from Itkal village, who promised to care for both of them. Though hesitant at first, she eventually married him in 2022. This moment sparked something in Ramchandra. “I promised myself—I won’t be anyone’s burden anymore.” He taught himself to use a wheelchair and manage personal care. He then opened a small grocery shop on his grandmother’s farmland. But without steady income or capital, the business struggled. A message that brought back hope One day, Ramchandra received a WhatsApp message about Youth4Jobs Foundation. Curious and desperate for a new start, he reached out. That message changed everything. Through Youth4Jobs’ online WISE program and Micro Enterprise (ME) batch, Ramchandra learned crucial business skills—marketing, financial literacy, and customer engagement. His confidence returned. He also received financial support from Rangde, allowing him to restart and expand his business. Today, Ramchandra is not just surviving—he’s thriving His grocery shop is back in action. He manages it independently and shoots Instagram reels to motivate others with disabilities. “I thank Youth4Jobs and Rangde for standing by me. They helped me find purpose when all I had left was pain.” From pain to power Ramchandra’s journey is not just about disability, but about possibility. Despite the loss of his parents, a devastating accident, and societal judgment, he refused to give up. He is now a symbol of strength in his village. A businessman. A content creator. A role model. “I shoot reels not for fame, but for those who think it’s over for them. I want to say—it’s never over.” Because when someone believed in him, Ramchandra found the strength to believe in himself. And now, he’s passing that belief on. Today, Kishor’s determination has transformed not only his life but also the lives of many in his village. Kishor Rajendra Meshram’s life changed dramatically when he was in 9th grade. A game of Gilli Danda turned tragic when an accident injured his eye, leaving him with 42% vision loss. For many, such a setback might have ended dreams. For Kishor, it was only the beginning of a story marked by resilience and purpose. Kishore, Divyang Mitr, seated beside a woman outside a rural home, helping her with UDID card application documents Despite the difficulties his vision loss caused, Kishor completed his Bachelor’s degree and worked as an electrician for four years. Later, Kishor took up a job at a call center, hoping for a new start. However, the constant screen glare worsened his vision, and he had to leave. His search for employment led to repeated rejection — not because of his abilities, but due to biases against his disability. The turning point came when Kishor heard about Youth4Jobs Foundation. Polio Can’t Stop Him: A Changemaker With Disability
Polio Can’t Stop Him! How a Man With Polio Became a Voice for Others With Disabilities Summary Modin Pashya Jahagirdar, based in Vijayapura district of Karnataka, was affected by polio as a child. But today, as a Grassroots Fellow with Youth4Jobs, he travels up to 80 km a day to bring rights, resources, and dignity to persons with disabilities across villages — one visit, one voice, one victory at a time. Modin Pashya’s Journey from Polio Survivor to Rural Changemaker Struck by polio shortly after birth, Modin Pashya Jahagirdar’s early life in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district was filled with quiet determination and daily struggle. With no access to assistive devices, his parents tied a stick to his hand to help him walk. Each trip to school meant walking long distances alone, often in pain — but he never stopped. While others questioned his abilities, Modin pushed forward. He completed his education, funded it himself by delivering newspapers, and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Political Science. For years, he worked as a lecturer, teaching History and Politics. But something inside him wanted more — not for himself, but for his community. That turning point came when he joined Youth4Jobs as a Grassroots Fellow at the Vijayapura District Center. Today, Modin travels 60 to 80 km a day across rural Karnataka, reaching out to persons with disabilities in some of the most underserved areas. He helps them access government schemes, disability certificates, assistive technology, skill training, and job or enterprise opportunities — services many don’t even know they are eligible for. The work is not easy. The roads are long, the hours unpredictable. But for Modin, this mission is deeply personal. “I’ve lived their life. I know what it’s like to be told you don’t matter. That’s why I show up—for them, every single day.” He’s no longer just a teacher — he’s a lifeline. A bridge between despair and possibility. Villagers across districts now know Modin by name. They welcome him with respect, not because of his title, but because of what he brings: hope, access, and belonging. In December 2024, he was honored during World Disability Day celebrations for his contributions to disability empowerment. But for Modin, the greatest reward is something much simpler. “When someone calls and says, ‘Sir, I got my job,’ or ‘I finally received my certificate,’ I feel truly alive. This is the work I was meant to do.” His journey — from a boy walking alone with a stick to a man leading hundreds toward opportunity — is a powerful reminder that disability doesn’t limit purpose. In fact, sometimes, it defines it. From Grinding Grains to Changing Lives: How Jamuna Prasad Found Purpose After Polio
Summary “I had finally found where I belonged,” he says, his voice filled with emotion. Jamuna Prasad, from a small village in Rajasthan, lost mobility to polio at age four and his father at nine. Despite growing up in poverty, he worked hard to support his family and never gave up on education. In 2023, he joined Youth4Jobs Foundation, where he now helps persons with disabilities access government schemes, pensions, UDID cards, training, and jobs. His own struggles give him the empathy to support others with dignity and care. “I didn’t just get a job—I found a mission,” says Jamuna. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————- ‘From Grinding Grains to Changing Lives: How Jamuna Prasad Found Purpose After Polio’ Born in the small village of Bandh Baraitha in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district, Jamuna Prasad’s early life was anything but easy. At just four years old, he was struck by a high fever. Despite his parents’ repeated visits to doctors, the illness left him with polio. This early disability became the backdrop of his life. But it didn’t define his dreams. Tragedy struck again when he was nine. His father passed away in 1987, leaving behind six children and a wife who now had to fend for the family on her own. She worked endlessly—earning just ₹10 a day. There were days when there wasn’t enough food for even one meal. But amidst this daily struggle, a quiet fire was building in young Jamuna. “I didn’t want to be a burden on anyone,” he recalls. After finishing his 10th standard, he moved to his maternal uncle’s house to study further. At the same time, he worked as a confectioner to support himself. Later, he and his brother opened a small flour mill—grinding grains to keep the household running. But for Jamuna, life wasn’t just about survival. It was about moving forward. Shifting roles, steady growth In 2006, Jamuna got his first steady job at PACL Company. For ten long years, he worked there, slowly bringing stability to his family. A turning point came in 2015 when he got married—a moment that filled him with renewed hope. Between 2015 and 2020, he explored different avenues—becoming a board member in his village and running an e-Mitra center. Through this small digital kiosk, he helped fellow villagers access essential services like bill payments, pensions, and ID cards. Quietly, he was becoming a bridge between rural citizens and the government. But it wasn’t until 2023 that Jamuna found the role that felt truly right. Becoming a changemaker On 20 February 2023, Jamuna joined Youth4Jobs Foundation, an organization that empowers persons with disabilities through training, skilling, and livelihoods. “I had finally found where I belonged,” he says, his voice filled with emotion. Today, he works on the ground, helping persons with disabilities navigate government schemes—from securing disability certificates and pensions to applying for foster care and job-linked programs. “I understand their silence. I know what it means to be ignored.” His lived experiences allow him to listen deeply, offer genuine support, and walk beside those trying to find a way forward. He recalls how often his own struggles—of being hungry, dismissed, or seen as incapable—now help him build trust with others in similar situations. “I didn’t just get a job. I found a mission. Youth4Jobs gave me a platform to serve, to grow, to uplift others like me.” From flour mills to fieldwork, a story of transformation Jamuna has gone from grinding grains in a small shed to becoming a respected figure in his village—someone who’s showing others what is possible, despite the odds. His story stands as a reminder: When dignity meets opportunity, even the toughest lives can be rewritten. Like the thousands he now supports, Jamuna once just needed a chance. And now, he’s creating that chance for others. “I walk into homes where no one believed in them. I sit beside them and tell them—I believe in you. Because someone once believed in me.” Are you ready to take the next step in your career?Visit the Swarajability Job Portal today and explore hundreds of job opportunities tailored for persons with disabilities. Kishor Rajendra Meshram: From Rejection to Recognition
Hailing from Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, Kishor Rajendra Meshram is a determined 27-year-old who has transformed personal adversity into community empowerment. Born into a modest family, he studied at Zilla Parishad School and Jawaharlal Nehru School. His life took an unexpected turn in 9th grade while playing the local game of Gilli Danda—an accident during the game injured his eye, leading to a 42% vision loss. Despite the setback, Kishor never gave up. He completed his BA and worked as an electrician for four years, facing daily challenges with wiring and tools. His resilience and determination enabled him to adapt, earning the trust of his village, who began to call on him for small electrical jobs. Kishor also worked briefly at a call center (Vindhya e-Infomedia Pvt. Ltd), but the constant screen time strained his vision, forcing him to look for alternate work. He applied to several jobs but was rejected purely on the basis of his disability. His turning point came when he learned about Youth4Jobs Foundation through one of its employees. He enrolled in their training program and picked up valuable skills such as resume building, soft skills, and communication. However, none of the job vacancies he was offered seemed fulfilling. When he learned about the opportunity to become a Divyang Mitr—a community disability leader—he felt an immediate connection and joined without hesitation. Kishor now works as a Divyang Mitr with Youth4Jobs, travelling to remote schools despite a lack of public transport. Often relying on lifts to reach his destinations, he remains unwavering in his mission. His work involves identifying, training, and placing persons with disabilities in suitable jobs—a role he finds deeply meaningful. Initially, both his family and extended relatives found it hard to understand or accept his disability. But over time, seeing his dedication and impact, their perceptions changed. Today, he is not just accepted—he is admired. The same relatives who once distanced themselves now respect him for his achievements. In his community, Kishor is known as the man who uplifts persons with disabilities. He often receives calls from candidates he has placed, thanking him for helping them stand on their feet. These moments, he says, are what drive him to keep going. Married and a father now, Kishor has earned the respect of even his in-laws, who initially looked down on him due to his disability. His story is a powerful reminder that when given the right opportunity, persons with disabilities can not only transform their own lives but become beacons of hope for others. Virender Gehlot was born with thalassemia. Today, he empowers rural youth with disabilities
Summary: Born with thalassemia in a small village near Jodhpur, Virender Gehlot spent much of his life battling a chronic condition and social stigma. But he refused to let this define him. Today, he works as a Divyang Mitr with Youth4Jobs, helping others with disabilities access government schemes, training, and job opportunities. From regular hospital visits to becoming a role model in his community, Virender’s journey is one of quiet courage and transformation. Full Story: Virender Gehlot’s life began with a battle.Born in a modest village outside Jodhpur, Rajasthan, he was diagnosed with thalassemia major as a child—a rare blood disorder that required blood transfusions every 15 days. His early years were spent shuttling between hospitals and home. At times, he would be too weak to attend school. At other times, he was judged or misunderstood for a condition he never chose. “My brother would travel miles to get me blood. My mother never once gave up,” Virender recalls. Despite his condition, he continued his education with quiet resilience. He knew his body was fragile, but his will was strong. The dream to be independent and to do something meaningful always burned bright inside him. But the world wasn’t always kind.People in his village often pitied him—or worse, saw him as incapable. Work opportunities were few. Information on disability schemes or support was even scarcer. Like many persons with disabilities in rural India, Virender was at risk of falling through the cracks. That’s when he discovered Youth4Jobs Foundation. Through their community outreach, he was connected to the Divyang Mitra program—an initiative to train local youth with disabilities to become peer leaders. For the first time, Virender found not just support—but purpose. After completing his training, Virender began helping others in his area. He assisted young people with disabilities in getting their UDID cards, accessing skill training, and even finding jobs. He regularly visits homes, interacts with families, and raises awareness about government schemes and inclusion. “I still go for blood transfusions every few weeks,” he says. “But now, I go back and help someone else stand on their feet.” Today, Virender is a trusted name in his village—not as someone needing help, but someone giving it. His phone rings often with requests for guidance. He smiles, picks it up, and begins yet another conversation that could change someone’s life. Rising Against the Odds: How Nikita Yuvaraj Padvi Empowers Women With Disabilities to Build Livelihoods and Enterprises
Summary Nikita Yuvaraj Padvi’s inspiring journey from a young woman with a locomotor disability in tribal Maharashtra to a changemaker empowering others is a story of resilience and courage. Despite facing abuse and societal bias, she pursued nursing and joined Youth4Jobs, where she now helps women with disabilities access training, jobs, UDID cards, government schemes, and start enterprises. Financially independent and determined, Nikita is breaking barriers and transforming lives in her community—proving that disability does not define one’s potential. Overcoming Barriers: From Early Challenges to Nursing Aspirations Standing or walking for long periods has always been difficult for Nikita, but her determination to live a life of dignity never wavered. Leaving behind the familiarity of home, she pursued a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) degree, balancing rigorous academics with the realities of independent living in a hostel. Financial stress and societal biases often threatened to pull her down, but Nikita’s spirit remained unbroken. At just 17 years old, Nikita faced one of her toughest battles yet — an arranged marriage that quickly turned painful. Her in-laws pressured her to abandon her education, convinced that a woman with a disability could not contribute meaningfully to society. Adding to her struggles, her husband was abusive, mocking her condition and shaking her confidence. But even in this dark chapter, Nikita chose courage over compromise, bravely leaving the marriage and returning to her parents’ home. Reclaiming Her Future: The Power of Education and Support With the unwavering support of close friends and well-wishers, Nikita began rebuilding her life. After a year-long gap, she joined Youth4Jobs Foundation, initially as a trainee, and soon became an integral part of the team. Juggling work and study, she passed her nursing exams with first division honors — a testament to her tenacity and a powerful answer to those who doubted her. From Lived Experience to Leadership: Helping Women Access Training, Jobs, and Government Benefits Today, Nikita works as a Divyang Mitra with Youth4Jobs, traveling across rural Maharashtra to reach out to women and youth with disabilities. She helps them obtain disability certificates (UDID cards), enroll in skills training, access government schemes, find meaningful employment, and even start their own enterprises. “Having faced these struggles myself, I know how important it is for women with disabilities to become financially independent,” Nikita says. “That’s why I work every day to guide them through training and livelihood options that change their lives.” Standing Strong Amidst Resistance Despite her accomplishments, Nikita still faces resistance. Some relatives question her decision to work and pursue her independence, but she remains steadfast. Financially independent and legally pursuing a divorce, she continues to break barriers and challenge the limitations others try to place on her. Transforming Lives and Communities in Nandurbar For Nikita, her work is not just a job — it’s a mission. “In my district, I had never heard of anyone working for the welfare of persons with disabilities,” she says. “Now, I am proud to be part of the change that empowers women to live independently and with dignity.” Her journey stands as a powerful reminder that disability does not define one’s worth or potential. With strength, purpose, and platforms like Youth4Jobs, Nikita has transformed her pain into power — inspiring women and men alike to rise above their challenges and create better futures through training, employment, and entrepreneurship. From Anxiety & Nervousness to Tejoshwini’s Rise as Senior Associate at Amazon
Summary Tejoshwini, from Chennai, faced undiagnosed hearing loss through her school years, quietly battling frustration and confusion. A late diagnosis and eventual use of a hearing aid helped her adapt, even as post-pregnancy changes worsened her hearing. With an MBA and unshakable determination, she now works as a Process Associate at Amazon, earning ₹2.55 LPA. Her journey from silent struggles to corporate success has made her a role model in her community — proof that disability is not inability. “She Didn’t Let Hearing Loss Stop Her: From Silent Struggles to Amazon Associate” When Chennai-based Tejoshwini was growing up, no one quite understood why she struggled to follow conversations or catch everything her teachers said. It wasn’t until after school that a medical check-up finally revealed the answer — she had a 55% hearing impairment. Despite the late diagnosis, Tejoshwini had always tried to find her own way. At school, she sat in the front row every day, hoping to hear better. Her teachers were supportive, and her parents — especially her father, Siva Kumar — gave her constant encouragement. But even with that support, it wasn’t easy. Lessons were often a blur of words she couldn’t fully grasp, and the frustration of missing out was something she quietly endured. Life brought more twists. After her pregnancy, Tejoshwini began experiencing further hearing issues, likely triggered by hormonal changes. That’s when she started using a hearing aid. At first, the sudden burst of sounds overwhelmed her — she often felt anxious, especially in noisy environments. But gradually, with courage and adaptation, she began to embrace her new world. Her neighbourhood in Ambattur, Chennai, stood by her. The community never made her feel different. But it was only after she secured a job that things truly shifted. Today, Tejoshwini works as a Senior Process Associate at Amazon. With an MBA and relentless determination, she broke through barriers and rejections that once stood in her way. The ₹2.55 LPA salary gave her more than just financial independence — it gave her self-worth. Her family couldn’t be prouder. Her parents were overjoyed to see their daughter rise above her disability and carve her place in the corporate world. And her community? They now see her as a role model — living proof that disability is not inability. Tejoshwini’s story is not just about getting a job. It’s about finding confidence, purpose, and becoming an inspiration for others who are still on their journey. Walked 5 km to Catch a Bus. Now Leads at HSBC, Earning ₹7.8 Lakhs a Year.
Summary: Denied opportunities due to a childhood disability, Kavitha walked 5 km daily just to reach school. With grit, education, and a mother’s belief, she earned an MBA and found her way to HSBC. Youth4Jobs helped her rediscover confidence, leading to a role as Assistant Manager. Now earning ₹7.8 LPA, she’s not just independent—she’s inspiring the next generation. Full Story: They said she couldn’t. She did anyway. Born in a remote village in Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, Killi Kavitha’s story is one of quiet defiance. A medical error in early childhood—expired polio drops—left her with a disability that made even standing a challenge. But from the beginning, Kavitha’s life has never been about what she couldn’t do. It’s been about everything she did, anyway. Her earliest champion was her mother. “She never let me think I was less than anyone,” Kavitha says. Education became her passion, her escape, and her purpose. Each day, she would walk 5 kilometers—navigating hilly terrain, crossing railway tracks, and braving monsoon rains—just to catch a bus to school. There were no proper roads. No ramps. But Kavitha never asked for sympathy. She just kept going. The odds were never kind. Society often wasn’t either. She faced ridicule from neighbors and even relatives. At one point, the emotional toll became too much. She left and began living independently—a bold move for a young woman, more so with a disability, in a conservative setting. Her determination began to bear fruit. Kavitha excelled at school, especially in academics and quiz competitions. A well-wisher gifted her a tricycle—her first taste of mobility freedom—which helped her complete her degree and pursue computer training. Her academic record won her a free MBA seat at Sri Venkateshwara University in Tirupati, where she specialized in finance. Post-MBA, she worked in data and finance roles across several companies. But opportunities were limited. Many roles, especially in sales, demanded physical mobility she couldn’t manage. Freelance work followed—but so did stagnation. Then came Youth4Jobs. Their two-month training program helped Kavitha not just gain new skills, but something even more powerful—confidence. It led her to HSBC. And that’s where she found her footing. Today, Kavitha is an Assistant Manager, Quality Control at HSBC, drawing an annual salary of ₹7.8 lakhs. She was even awarded Best Employee of the Year—a moment of quiet victory for someone once denied a job offer to her face because of her disability. That rejection didn’t break her. It lit a fire. “I don’t want to depend on anyone—I want to be happy, independent, and help others,” she says. Now financially stable and emotionally unshakable, Kavitha dreams of mentoring others like her. Her story is a reminder that disability is not inability—and that with the right mindset and opportunity, the girl who once walked along railway tracks to school can one day rise to lead in a global bank.
