Summary
Nikita Yuvaraj Padvi’s inspiring journey from a young woman with a locomotor disability in tribal Maharashtra to a changemaker empowering others is a story of resilience and courage. Despite facing abuse and societal bias, she pursued nursing and joined Youth4Jobs, where she now helps women with disabilities access training, jobs, UDID cards, government schemes, and start enterprises. Financially independent and determined, Nikita is breaking barriers and transforming lives in her community—proving that disability does not define one’s potential.
Overcoming Barriers: From Early Challenges to Nursing Aspirations
Standing or walking for long periods has always been difficult for Nikita, but her determination to live a life of dignity never wavered. Leaving behind the familiarity of home, she pursued a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) degree, balancing rigorous academics with the realities of independent living in a hostel. Financial stress and societal biases often threatened to pull her down, but Nikita’s spirit remained unbroken.

At just 17 years old, Nikita faced one of her toughest battles yet — an arranged marriage that quickly turned painful. Her in-laws pressured her to abandon her education, convinced that a woman with a disability could not contribute meaningfully to society. Adding to her struggles, her husband was abusive, mocking her condition and shaking her confidence. But even in this dark chapter, Nikita chose courage over compromise, bravely leaving the marriage and returning to her parents’ home.
Reclaiming Her Future: The Power of Education and Support
With the unwavering support of close friends and well-wishers, Nikita began rebuilding her life. After a year-long gap, she joined Youth4Jobs Foundation, initially as a trainee, and soon became an integral part of the team. Juggling work and study, she passed her nursing exams with first division honors — a testament to her tenacity and a powerful answer to those who doubted her.
From Lived Experience to Leadership: Helping Women Access Training, Jobs, and Government Benefits
Today, Nikita works as a Divyang Mitra with Youth4Jobs, traveling across rural Maharashtra to reach out to women and youth with disabilities. She helps them obtain disability certificates (UDID cards), enroll in skills training, access government schemes, find meaningful employment, and even start their own enterprises.
“Having faced these struggles myself, I know how important it is for women with disabilities to become financially independent,” Nikita says. “That’s why I work every day to guide them through training and livelihood options that change their lives.”
Standing Strong Amidst Resistance
Despite her accomplishments, Nikita still faces resistance. Some relatives question her decision to work and pursue her independence, but she remains steadfast. Financially independent and legally pursuing a divorce, she continues to break barriers and challenge the limitations others try to place on her.
Transforming Lives and Communities in Nandurbar
For Nikita, her work is not just a job — it’s a mission. “In my district, I had never heard of anyone working for the welfare of persons with disabilities,” she says. “Now, I am proud to be part of the change that empowers women to live independently and with dignity.”
Her journey stands as a powerful reminder that disability does not define one’s worth or potential. With strength, purpose, and platforms like Youth4Jobs, Nikita has transformed her pain into power — inspiring women and men alike to rise above their challenges and create better futures through training, employment, and entrepreneurship.
