Lucy Wilson | Disability - Person with Physical Disfigurement - Burn Survivor | United Kingdom

Scarred Stillness

The Story behind the Shot:

Lucy Wilson, through her self-portrait Scarred Stillness, uses photography to share her journey of strength and self-acceptance. After sustaining burns on 34% of her body before her first birthday and undergoing multiple surgeries, including the recent amputation of four toes, Lisa wanted to convey confidence despite her scars. Her photograph highlights the beauty of resilience and aims to inspire others living with disabilities or disfigurements to embrace themselves. She hopes her work encourages society to recognize and respect differences, showing that personal challenges can be transformed into empowering stories through art.
