‘I Didn’t Let My Disability Define Me’: Karnataka Engineer Rahul Kurudigi with Disability Bags ₹18 LPA Job at J.P. Morgan
Summary: This is the inspiring journey of Rahul Kurudigi, a young engineer from a small town in Karnataka, born with a locomotor disability. Despite early medical challenges and a tough career pivot, Rahul didn’t let his disability define him. With resilience, self-learning, and support from Youth4Jobs Foundation, he transitioned into the IT sector and landed a coveted ₹18 LPA role at J.P. Morgan. His story is a powerful reminder that determination and the right support can turn any obstacle into opportunity. Rahul Kurudigi grew up watching his father work the fields and his mother teach at school. Born with a locomotor disability, Rahul made himself a promise early on: “I will never let my disability define my dreams.” At 26, Rahul has kept that promise—landing a Software Engineer role at J.P. Morgan with an annual package of ₹18 lakh. ‘Challenges were my companion from the start’ Rahul, a twin, was diagnosed with a disability at birth. By age one, he had undergone three major surgeries. But with supportive parents and teachers, school became his safe space. “I was active, enthusiastic, and treated like any other student,” he says. He even competed in javelin throw, defying stereotypes. ‘Engineering was my passion. But I had to pivot.’ He pursued Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Gogte Institute of Technology. But midway, he realized the physical demands of core electrical roles weren’t feasible. Instead of giving up, Rahul shifted to IT, teaching himself web development while working at Wipro. That’s when he found Youth4Jobs Foundation. ‘Youth4Jobs saw me—not my disability’ Youth4Jobs, a nonprofit empowering persons with disabilities, became a turning point. “The team constantly followed up, guided me, and referred me to four companies within a month,” says Rahul. One referral changed his life: J.P. Morgan. “I was shocked. A global firm like J.P. Morgan, and me—a boy with disability from a small town?” he says. “They didn’t just help with my resume. They gave me confidence. They saw my potential.” Today, Rahul is excited about what lies ahead—not just for himself, but for others like him. “If my journey can inspire even one person to believe in themselves, it’s worth it,” he says. From Struggle to Startup: Tara’s Journey
From Silence to Spark: How Tara Kulkarni Lit Up Her Life with Courage For most people, a flickering lightbulb is just an inconvenience. For Tara Kulkarni, it was a symbol of her entire life—dim, uncertain, and in need of a restart. Tara, 32, lives in the small village of Shindolli in Belagavi, Karnataka. Her days once followed a quiet rhythm: caring for her two children, managing a home on a shoestring budget, and navigating life with a locomotor disability that affects her right leg. Her father and husband worked as daily wage laborers. There were no extra hours in the day, and certainly no extra money at the end of the month. But Tara had something quietly powerful—a refusal to give up. She scraped together ₹90,000 and opened Sri Raghavendra Electricals, a tiny shop selling electrical goods. It was her way of saying: “I can do more.” But starting a business is never easy, especially when you’re also fighting social bias and physical limitations. Her income barely crossed ₹7,500 a month—not enough to repay debts or feed her children. The shop lights were on, but Tara’s spirit was dimming. Then, a phone call from a childhood friend sparked a turning point. “Why don’t you talk to Youth4Jobs?” her friend suggested. That one line shifted everything. Through Youth4Jobs, Tara was introduced to Divyang Mitra and signed up for a 30-day training in self-employment for persons with disabilities. What she gained wasn’t just business knowledge—it was a new lens to see her own potential. She learned how to manage money, attract customers, and stay resilient through business ups and downs. Most importantly, she discovered that entrepreneurship isn’t about having it all—it’s about believing in yourself. Today, Tara’s business is thriving. She now earns over ₹10,000 a month. But ask her what changed the most, and she won’t say income. She’ll say confidence. “I used to feel invisible. Now, people walk into my shop and listen to me. They respect me. I feel seen.” – Tara Kulkarni 💡 Start Your Journey Today Tara’s story shows that with the right support, persons with disabilities can become successful entrepreneurs, business owners, and changemakers. I Wanted to Stand on My Own Feet–Rishu Bhardwaj
Rishu Bhardwaj: “I Wanted to Stand on My Own Feet and I did it” Rishu Bhardwaj’s story begins in a quiet town in Punjab, in a home filled with warmth, love, and the kind of unwavering support that can shape a person’s future. Born with profound hearing loss, Rishu learned early on to express herself not through words, but through gestures, expressions, and sign language. Even as a child, she radiated joy—often found experimenting in the kitchen or playing with makeup, delighting in small, everyday pleasures that mirrored her creative, spirited nature. Her parents first sensed something was different when she didn’t respond to everyday sounds. At first, there was confusion and worry. But instead of letting fear take over, they reached out—to doctors, experts, and loved ones—gathering the tools and wisdom they needed to support her. With time, Rishu’s home became not just a space of care, but a foundation of empowerment. She attended an integrated school where deaf students learned together, yet were expected to take exams alongside hearing peers. The challenges were immense—communication gaps, lack of accessible resources, and an often-unaccommodating system. But Rishu was undeterred. Bolstered by her family’s constant encouragement, she navigated each hurdle with quiet determination. Her life took a meaningful turn when she learned about Youth4Jobs, a platform dedicated to training and placing young people with disabilities. Introduced to the organization by her husband, who is also deaf, Rishu saw an opportunity to take the next big step toward independence. She eagerly joined the training program and immersed herself in learning. In that one month of training, something remarkable happened. Not only did she sharpen her workplace skills, but she also became a mentor of sorts—encouraging other deaf candidates to believe in their potential. Her optimism was contagious. Then came the big break. Rishu was invited for an interview with Aditya Birla, and when her offer letter finally arrived, it was more than a job—it was a symbol of how far she’d come. Her family erupted in celebration, her phone buzzed with messages from friends, and for Rishu, it felt like a dream turning real. But she didn’t stop there. Knowing how hard the journey can be, Rishu began referring other deaf candidates to Youth4Jobs. Whenever she came across a job opening, she shared it with her community. She became a quiet but powerful bridge—connecting people like her to new opportunities and reminding them that they, too, belonged in the workforce. Still, the path was not without struggle. The world outside her family wasn’t always kind or inclusive. Many companies hesitated to hire persons with disabilities. Finding a job required more than a degree—it demanded persistence, community, and courage. Rishu believes the real challenge isn’t just academic; it’s systemic. There are still so many barriers to quality education and inclusive employment. But through it all, she remained steadfast. Today, Rishu is more than just employed—she is empowered. She credits her parents, her husband, and Youth4Jobs for believing in her potential when the world often didn’t. Her story is a shining example of what’s possible when inclusion meets determination. “Never give up,” she says. “With the right support, even the most difficult dreams can come true.” Rishu’s journey is a celebration of resilience, a call for inclusion, and above all, a reminder that every individual—regardless of ability—deserves the chance to thrive 🌟 Looking for a job like Rishu?Register on Swarajability—India’s first AI-powered job platform for persons with disabilities. 🎓 Want free skill training near you?Join a Youth4Jobs training center and start your journey to independence. Tushar’s Story (Low Vision) – This Is What I Did With My First Salary
The true story of Tushar—a young man with low vision, big dreams, and the heart to rise above it all. Tushar, 22, lived in Shivaji Ward in Bhandara, Maharashtra. His home was small, but his dreams were not. His father worked as a construction laborer, carrying heavy bricks under the scorching sun. His mother worked as a maid, cleaning other people’s homes to keep food on the table. Life wasn’t easy, but the family held each other together with love. Tushar was born with 66% low vision, a recognized disability under India’s Persons with Disabilities Act. He didn’t talk about it much. He simply saw the world differently—had to squint a little harder. But what hurt more than his blurry vision were the reactions of people around him. The way children teased him at school. The stares. The whispers. “How will you ever do anything?” they would say. Tushar never replied. He just looked down, stayed quiet, and moved forward. Some nights, he cried alone. But he never gave up. He focused on education—his first step toward independence. He earned a diploma in Mechanical Engineering, followed by a post-diploma in Tool Design. Even then, he wasn’t done. He began pursuing his B-Tech degree—not for praise, but because he dreamed of giving his parents a better life. He wanted to become the reason they didn’t have to struggle anymore. But for many youth with disabilities in India, even the best qualifications aren’t enough. Tushar faced rejection after rejection. Every job interview ended the same way—with a polite smile and a quiet, “We’re sorry, we don’t have a position for someone like you.” These were not just rejections of a résumé—they were rejections of his ability. They saw his disability. Not his determination. Tushar working diligently as a UV Machine Operator at SPC Scan Graphics Tushar began to question himself. But then, something shifted. He came across Youth4Jobs, a leading organization working for livelihoods of persons with disabilities, through a community partner called Divyang Mitra. It didn’t seem like a big opportunity at first—just training. But he decided to give it a chance. He enrolled in Batch 23. That classroom became a turning point. For the first time, Tushar wasn’t seen as someone who needed help—he was seen as someone with potential. He was trained in communication, digital literacy, workplace etiquette, and interview skills. Most importantly, he was reminded of his self-worth and capability. Then came the life-changing moment: he got his first job. Tushar was hired as a UV Machine Operator at SPC Scan Graphics, earning ₹13,000 per month. It was more than a paycheck—it was validation. The first thing he did with his salary? He went home and placed it in his mother’s hands. Her eyes filled with tears. In that moment, Tushar felt what every person with a disability deserves to feel—pride, dignity, and inclusion. But Tushar’s story didn’t stop there. With his confidence restored, he returned to the same community that once doubted him. Not with anger—but with a desire to lift others. Today, those who once mocked him now come to him for guidance. And he helps them. Tushar now actively supports other persons with disabilities by introducing them to the SwarajAbility Livelihood Portal—India’s first accessible job portal for persons with disabilities. He assists them with job applications, interview preparation, and helps them apply for government schemes for the disabled. He’s become a bridge between opportunity and those who are often left behind. Today, Tushar is not just a job holder—he’s a mentor, a community champion, and a quiet advocate for disability inclusion in India’s workforce. He continues to study, to grow, and to dream even bigger. He wants to earn more, help more, and bring light to those still living in the shadows of doubt. Because if life taught him anything, it’s this:struggles may be temporary, but courage—courage creates chang Looking for Inclusive Job Opportunities?
